2015 Buffalo Bills season
The Buffalo Bills season is the franchise's 46th in the National Football League, 56th of play and first under new head coach Rex Ryan, who signed with the team on January 12, 2015. The team will attempt to improve on 2014's 9–7 record and break a fifteen-year playoff drought, which became the longest playoff drought in major professional sport after the Toronto Blue Jays broke their 22-year playoff drought on September 25.〔http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/21143/bills-now-have-longest-current-playoff-drought-among-major-sports〕 It will also be the first full season under the ownership of Buffalo Sabres owners Kim and Terrence Pegula, who purchased the team partway through 2014. The Bills began their season with an open competition for the starting quarterback position after Kyle Orton, the starter for most of the 2014 campaign, retired during the offseason. Tyrod Taylor, a free agent acquisition from Baltimore, won the competition over incumbent second-string quarterback EJ Manuel and trade acquisition Matt Cassel (the team later traded Cassel to Dallas in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2017); Taylor is the current starter. The team also entered the season looking for a new head coach as Doug Marrone, who coached the two previous seasons, resigned to take advantage of a contract loophole and Ryan, who previously spent the past six seasons coaching the division-rival New York Jets, filled the position.
